OSET RIDERS COME TO BEAZLEY END

ESSEX OSET CUP ROUND 1

Braintree and District Motorcycle Club run the first round of the 2022 Essex Oset Cup on Saturday 26th February. Held over the undulating North Essex hills of Beazley End just north of Braintree mixed with some man made logs and pipes strategically placed around this super trials venue. 8 sections to be covered over 4 laps was the challenge for the young riders on ready to take on the challenge.

In the older categories girl power was again on display as local girls Clara Wicks and Jorgana Fletcher took on the middle route and battled round on 65 and 39 marks respectively to take the wins in the Youth A and B category.

With the majority of the entry taking on the very same “middle route” it was won overall and in his own Youth D class by the mighty atom Reuben Keet from the Surrey Schoolboys club who had a quite brilliant ride on just 13 marks lost. Only a couple of failures on the steep hill of section 8 causing him any problems. This put him some 38 marks clear of Jasper Johnson in 2nd with the Ipswich rider getting to grips with his newly acquired bigger Oset.

In Youth C only Fin Penny took on the hard yellow route and he rode to his usual high standard despite struggling a little with the very steep banking of section 3 and a rouge 5 on his last lap on section 8. The only other 2 riders to take on the hard route was future Star Alfie Shaw in Youth D who put on a master class of skill and control to drop a measly 13 marks all day. Alfie deciding to leap the huge gap between the log and banking on section 4 every time which was truly spectacular. Toby Trevatt battled on to finish a fine 2nd place but on 101 marks showing just how hard the route was and how good the riding from Fin and Alfie had been.

The remaining Youth C took on the middle route and it was Academy regular Reuben Green who took a nice win on 21 marks some 23 marks clear of the other girl in the field; young Maya Butcher.

Little Thomas Tidd from the Hillingdon & Uxbridge club took a lovely win in Youth D on the white route dropping just 7 marks with local lads Stanley Butcher and Barnaby Green fighting it out for 2nd with Stanley taking it by just one mark at the end of the day – 25 to Barnaby’s 26.

The very youngest Youth E’s were a pleasure to watch as they battled round the course and it was little Oliver Norman who took all the advise of his trials riding dad (Tom) and Grandad (Richard) as he won the class on 53 marks lost. Sam Trevatt took a fine 2nd place.

Round 2 of the 8 event series is on 26th March – please get your entries in on the ACU website. It will be great to welcome you all!
